Road through Hrensko reopens after forest fire

The Hrensko–Schmilka border crossing between the Czech Republic and Germany reopened fully to all traffic on August 18. Highway B172 to Bad Schandau has also reopened.

After several weeks of closure this summer due to a major forest fire, areas on both sides of the border are open to visitors once again. Areas of the national park lands that were directly damaged by wildfire remain dangerous for visitors and shall remain closed until further notice.

On the German side of the border in the Elbsandsteingebirge and Sächsische Schweiz, spots that are now open include

  • Bastei
  • Plateaus on the left bank of the Elbe
  • Königstein
  • Stolpen
  • Felsenbühne Rathen
  • Krinitz valley trams
  • Bad Schandau
  • Obere Schleuse boats
  • All musueums and indoor activities

The Elbe Cycling Route is fully operational along its full length.
