Street food, concerts, tree lighting – First Advent weekend promises plenty of fun

Come soak up the holiday atmosphere on 26 November, the first Sunday in Advent. At the holiday food market in the parking lot by the city library you can taste some holiday street food and pick up some presents, both edible and otherwise. Throughout the day there will be various musical performances. Acts to look forward to include trumpeter Julius Baros, the Teplice Big Band (made up of students and graduates of the Teplice musical conservatory), and more.

On November 27, come down for the traditional tree lighting ceremony, also in front of the city library. There will be lots of holiday stands and a packed cultural program including a puppet show and a Christmas play for children. Local children’s choirs will perform as well. And when darkness falls, at five o’clock, the Christmas tree will light up for the first time… there may be angels too. Evening entertainment includes Prague folk-jazz-pop band MarZ and a holiday concert by singer Daniel Hulka accompanied by Jiri Skorpik.

Weekend events kick off at 10 am. Between performances there will be plenty to see – wood carving, Christmas workshops where visitors can make their own advent candles and other decorations, and more. The day will be moderated by Tomas Kettner.

December events continue in the spirit of Christmas. The city promises a rock-and-roll Christmas with masked Krampus figures, Friday night DJs, a holiday swap, and holiday markets featuring regional goods. Children will enjoy theater performances outdoors, in front of the visitors center, and fans of Wim Hof can take an icy plunge in the river at the polar bear swim. Christmas carolers can gather with hot mulled wine on Husovo namesti every Wednesday at two, moving to Krizova ulice at six. Other plans include Christmas caroling with Karel Suchanek and a concert by Ukrainian singer Lumara.
