The concert recording in the intimate atmosphere of the Café in the cinema in Veselí nad Moravou brings a cross-section of the best of Kemel's songwriting.

Podmokelská 1070/24, 40502 Děčín, Ústecký kraj, Česko

Mirek Kemel is known to a wide cultural audience mainly as an excellent cartoonist who followed Renčín and Jiránek in the concept of philosophical and political drawing. A few years ago, however, he also attracted attention as a folk singer-songwriter who gathered around him excellent accompanying musicians. In his lyrics, Kemel manages to be communicative and precise without resorting to lyrical clichés or platitudes. His poetics follow in the footsteps of refined Czech poetry and the best songwriting, Kemel works with clear yet poetic metaphors and manages to create an enchanting atmosphere of the whole. What's more, he benefits from a natural, very pleasant narrative voice - and even the musical aspect of his songs feels familiar, clear but not banal. His harmonies and melodies always contain surprising moments. On stage, moreover, he benefits from the support of excellent musicians who - backed by a foundation of softer folk-rock - can transcend genres. But what emerges from the interviews that accompany the concert: the most important thing about Kemel's band is the human togetherness, that ordinary but crucial camaraderie that transcends music. And perhaps that's why the resulting stage impression can be so convincing. Without much hype, Kemel has grown over the past decade into a great songwriter who can deliver stories with an almost therapeutic edge. Recorded in the intimate atmosphere of the Café in the cinema in Veselí nad Moravou, this concert recording brings a cross-section of the best of Kemel's songwriting.
