Pravčická brána

Pravčická brána, the largest sandstone rock gate in Europe, is the most famous and admired natural formation that you cannot miss when visiting Bohemian Switzerland. Its impressive dimensions (arch span at the base 26.5 m, opening height 16 m, width 7-8 m, minimum thickness 3 m, top platform of the gate 21 m above its base) will seem even larger when viewed up close.

Below the sandstone massif itself is the Sokolí hnízdo (Falcon's Nest) chateau, which was built in 1881 by the local estate owner, Prince Edmund Clary-Aldringen. In the past, this chateau served as a hotel for important guests of the Clary-Aldringen family, but today it serves as a stylish restaurant. The Pravčická brána complex also includes several lookout points, which are spread out on the surrounding rocks and at the foot of the gate. These rock lookout points offer a beautiful view not only of Pravčická brána itself, but also of other landmarks of Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland.

You can reach Pravčická brána by following the red trail from Hřensko. The walk along this trail takes approximately 60 minutes. Gabrielina stezka, leading from Mezní Louka, is still closed due to a summer fire in 2022.

You can reach the starting point, which is the Tři prameny crossroads (Hřensko, Pravčická brána bus stop), by bus line no. 434 (timetable), 438 (timetable) or shuttle bus no. 441 (timetable), which runs every 30 minutes on weekends in May, June, September, and October, and every day in July and August.

You can also take the Mlýnská cesta trail leading from the village of Mezná. The yellow trail will take you to Tři prameny (Three Springs), and along the way you can enjoy an unusual view of Pravčická brána, thanks to a lookout point with a telescope.
