Latest on Tyrš Bridge closure

The bridge has been closed since 2 May. Preparations for its repair are underway.

The city of Děčín is intensively working on the repair and reopening of Tyrš Bridge, which has been closed to all traffic and pedestrians since Friday, 2 May. Preparations are underway to make the bridge at least partially operable in the near future.

Work will begin within a few days on underpinning the bridge, a process estimated to take three to five days. The work was originally scheduled to start on Tuesday, but the complexity of the situation requires longer preparation.

A structural engineer will then again assess the traffic load that can be borne by Tyrš Bridge. Subsequently, the city plans to replace the damaged plates and put permanent supports in place. However, project documentation must first be prepared for this investment project.

The Tyrš Bridge is a vital connector for residents and visitors to the city and the city’s aim is to have it repaired as soon as possible. Options for rerouting traffic are being explored in cooperation with the Czech Technical University and traffic and municipal police. We ask drivers to help contribute to the smooth flow of traffic by obeying posted traffic signs and following general rules of the road, for example by using turn signals at roundabouts.

Major intersections are being monitored to ensure the free flow of traffic. Measures are in place in case there is a significant traffic collapse in the city. Among them are, for example, changing traffic signs at several places in the city or giving preference to public transport so that, for example, it can bypass a traffic jam when exiting the New Bridge.
