Tight walls in winter: Go to Narnia

The weather can't decide whether it will stay winter or turn into spring, but we will enjoy the frozen beauty. And where else could you enjoy this snowy splendour better than in our Czech Narnia - in the Tisza Walls. Come and see a winter fairy tale..

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), produced by Walt Disney Pictures, was filmed in the UK, the USA, Poland and the Czech Republic. Director Andrew Adamson couldn't have chosen a better place to shoot the fairy tale footage than the rock town of Tisza, which offers an ideal fantasy backdrop. In the first episode, which was filmed here, the four siblings - Lucinka, Edmund, Zuzana and Petr - are transported to another world - Narnia - by means of a magical wardrobe during a game of hide-and-seek. Here, the girl Lucinka visits the cave of the faun Tumnus and all four siblings get their first glimpse of the endless forests of Narnia on their way across the rock bridge (the Pravčická Gate is used as a bridge in the film).

The rock city has served as an ideal backdrop for many other films and fairy tales, but it is The Chronicles of Narnia that is the most famous film that still attracts visitors to the rocks. And it is in winter that the comparison with the film is most authentic.

The Tisza Walls are one of the oldest tourist areas of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. In earlier times, a guide was recommended to visit the rock town, pointing out rock formations that stimulated the visitor's imagination. The tradition of the names of the rocks has been preserved, the most famous ones are still preserved today. You can go to Tisá by car or bus, from the bus stop and car park it is only a short walk to the trailhead. You will be guided through the rocks by the Tisá Stěny Nature Trail, and there are many beautiful nooks and crannies and restaurants along the way. Especially in the winter we recommend good sturdy footwear and increased caution on and under the rocks.
